I grew up in a small town. Though I’ve lived in large cities, my love and concern for smaller communities remains.
I believe small businesses are the lifeblood of a community, building strong relationships and keeping money and jobs local, instead of all the profits going to Wall Street.Â
But the Internet forced small organizations to compete with the largest most powerful companies in the world. Companies that spend billions annually on marketing and e-commerce.

I started doing design and layout in the 80s at the dawn of the desktop publishing revolution. I was still in high school.
In college, something wild and utterly new emerged that I knew would change everything: the World Wide Web.Â
The first website I ever sold to a client, I had to explain what email was. I setup their first in office internet connection. That client was, and still is, the largest family-owned bank in the U.S., Amarillo National Bank.Â
In internet years, I’ve been in business longer than Lloyd’s of London.
I have won hundreds of awards for public speaking, and taught the subject at the University of Kansas for eight years.Â
I helped design the curriculum for the University’s business communication class. A primary goal of the course was to teach students how to deliver engaging presentations, and overcome the ubiquitous problem of “death by PowerPoint.”
I have bachelors degrees in communication and digital filmmaking. While at KU, I earned my master’s in communication and am finishing my dissertation for my Ph.D.
